Seitan is great, what else can I say. It is fast to do, doesn’t cost a thing, you can make excellent steaks out of it, you can marinade and freeze your steaks. If you are a vegetarian, make seitan. If you are not, who cares, make seitan 🙂

  • 2,5 dl gluten flour
  • 1,25 dl oluthiivahiutaleita (Sorry, I have no idea what this is in english, but you can replace it with some regular wheat flour for example)
  • 0,5-1 dl wheat flour
  • Some spices, like smoked paprika, pepper, chili..
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 dl water
  • 1,5 - 2 l water
  • 2 vegetable bouillon cubes
  • 0,25 dl balsamic vinegar
  • 0,25 dl soy sauce
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • some chilies, chopped
  • pepper and salt
  • little bit of sugar
  • some oil
  1. Fill sauce pan with broth ingredients, bring to boil
  2. While waiting the broth to boil: Mix your dry ingredients in a bowl
  3. Add liquids to your dough with your hands
  4. Knead for couple of minutes until elastic
  5. Try to make a thick rope out of the dough
  6. Cut into slices
  7. Put your slices to boiling broth
  8. Let them boil in low heat for half a hour
  9. In a meanwhile, prepare your marinade
  10. Use stainer and let your slices dry a little
  11. Mix slices with the marinade in a bowl, keep them in a fridge overnigh
  12. Fry on a frying pan, grill, freeze, slice and add them in to your favourite dish, use your imagination.
