My friends gave me a tip about Russian Pickles recipe, and of course I had to try it out, I love pickles, especially Russian pickles. I had to wait a while these to prepare, but when they were ready, it was worth all the waiting!

Russian Pickels
  • Fresh cucumbers
  • Sea salt
  • Fresh dill
  • Oak leaves
  • Garlic
  • Big glass jars
  • Some vodka
  1. Rinse cucumbers and oak leaves well with water
  2. Place one third of the leaves at the bottom of the jars, one third mixed with cucumbers and one third at the top of the jar
  3. Place cucumbers vertically into the jar
  4. Mix in herbs and garlic as well
  5. Mix solution: Fresh, cold water, 7-10% vodka, 5% salt (0,5 dl per liter of liquid)
  6. Coarse sea salt is fine, there is no need to mix it well with water, just place it in the jar, it will solve over time
  7. Place bag full of water as a lid in the beginning, and keep jars in room temperature for 1 to 2 days, to start the fermentation
  8. You can check if fermentation has started by shaking the jar: if it has started, small bubbles will rise
  9. Once fermentation has started, place jars into cold, 2 - 4 C would be ideal
